The Brezo Tinto is 100% Mencia from 30 year old vines located in Gregory's Horta and Villafranca vineyards. Similar is style to a spicy Syrah, this works well with robust stews and meat dishes. An inky-purple in colour. Aromas of cassis, raspberry and smoke. On the palate, full-bodied and generous with bags of earthy red fruits. Rich and chewy in texture, the finish is lingering.
Bodegas Mengoba makes around 5000 cases of wonderful, high country-wines from a patchwork of vineyards in the hills of the Alto Bierzo. The vineyard work is absolutely artisanal; the vines are grown according to organic principles and Mengoba’s highest plot remains one of the Spain's few quality producing vineyards still ploughed by cow. As the authors of The Finest Wines of Rioja and North West Spain point out, this is a "name to watch."
